Although I've been a professional photographer for over 40 years, newborn and maternity portraits have been my main focus and specialty for the last few years. This includes families of all sizes and babies of all ages.
Along with many single newborns, I have successfully photographed 3 sets of twins this year. For my La Grange, Texas studio that is a lot of twins! Having lots of experience over the years in understanding and working with newborns, this has really helped me in comfortably handling twins.
In each of the sessions we were also working with siblings including one session where sister wasn't even two yet!
With twin sessions, getting both babies together as well as separately is important.
Whenever possible I try to match what I do with both babies so you will be able to create beautiful wall groupings for your home.
Do you have props we can use?
I have a variety of wraps and props available for use in the portraits. If you have specific colors you prefer that complement the baby's skin tones, I am more than willing to accommodate. You are also welcome to bring your own items and props to add a personal touch to your session. Ensuring the baby's safety and comfort is my top priority, so I will strive to incorporate your ideas for a meaningful experience. Keep in mind that not all babies are comfortable with every pose or position, so while the images may seem posed, remember that the baby's comfort comes first!
With my extensive backdrop collection, I thoroughly enjoy capturing photos of babies from an aerial perspective, using a creative setup on the floor. This approach transforms babies into works of art.
Where will I take the photos?
Outdoor sessions are also nice for newborn families assuming the session timing and weather cooperate. Otherwise, I have plenty of options inside my glass house and in my camera room. The soft lighting I use in my glass house and in my camera is always the most flattering for everyone.
What's best to wear?
The soft neutral colors this family chose are just perfect so that each and every person gets equal attention. There aren't any distracting colors pulling away your attention. All of the outfits are very comfortable and easy to wear.
Parents love those "everyone looking at the camera smiling shots" but they also swoon over the intimate moments captured with their sweet newborns.
What is the best time for a newborn session?
Although scheduling a newborn session around 7-10 days after birth is ideal, I have experience working with older babies as well. If your situation doesn't align perfectly with this timeframe, there's no need to worry. Generally, babies are most cooperative in the morning, so I typically aim to begin my sessions around 9 or 10 am.
Does the family always have to be included in the session?
I offer 3 different types of sessions for my clients. Things don't always work out to have parents and siblings included for a variety of reasons so I am happy to photograph just the baby if that is what works best or that's what you prefer.
Do you also photograph maternity sessions?
I absolutely love maternity sessions and think everyone should do them! If you prefer to skip the maternity, that's fine too. I have some beautiful gowns and wraps you can use for maternity as well as newborn sessions so you can look and feel your very best.
Do you allow friends and family to purchase gift certificates for my portraits?
Certainly! Whether it's the first child or not, loved ones enjoy spoiling new parents with presents. What could be a more perfect gift than a gift voucher to assist with the costs of capturing your baby's first year through portraits? Feel free to ask about my NEWBORN GIFT REGISTRY. The process is straightforward, and I can easily finalize the transaction over the phone while you relax at home.
